Combat de boxe

This short but beautiful film by Charles Dekeukeleire, was constructed with a very rhythmic montage of close-ups, double prints, alternating positive and negative images. The violence of the fight, the presence of the audience, the tension between the crowd and the ring, were brought together in a flashy montage, but that sequence of perfectly concrete shots rises above the montage itself to capture not so much the abstract as the very meaning of the fight, the signs, the essential concept of boxing.
