SINGLEBODYNOISE

[sax]

The saxophonists stand in the middle of the hall, on a stage that resembles a boxing ring. No coincidence, as this concert focuses on concentration.

The line-up consists of four young musicians who, sometimes as a quartet, sometimes solo or as a duo, tackle pieces from the repertoire of repetitive music. And they do so to every corner of the ring: for instance, two of them describe a square around a 6-metre long score while playing, while the tenor saxophonist battles impressively on her own with a groovy rhythm track. Moments later, four concentrated saxes wriggle into the compelling rhythm of a tape, until as an electronically manipulated baritone sax enthralls its opponents with incantatory sounds that fill the entire room.

It’s definitely a thrilling match, with the players being further encouraged from another stage by an energetic percussionist who ushers in each ‘round.
