(based on a true story)#13
After his earlier appearance at KMSKA LAAT in September 2024, Marc Vanrunxt revisits the venue with a new chapter of his ongoing, site-specific project (based on a true story).
For this thirteenth edition, GOT TO BE REAL, he embraces a more fragmented, collage-like form that unfolds throughout the museum.
Movement, voice, and music intersect not only in the galleries devoted to the Modern Masters, but also in in-between spaces — such as the projection room and the entrance hall near Pierre Alechinsky’s monumental painting.
The result is a triptych of sound, body, and space, created in collaboration with three Antwerp companies: BL!NDMAN, de Roovers and Kunst/Werk.
The connections to the museum’s collection are never literal; they emerge intuitively, through association and resonance. (based on a true story) explores presence—where we are, in time and space, both as performers and as spectators. Recurring compositions act as anchors, allowing visitors to wander freely: from one performance to another, from one era to the next, moving through a landscape or labyrinth of thoughts, sensations, and memories.
For this edition, Marc Vanrunxt invites several of his favorite artists: Els Mondelaers, Truus Bronkhorst, Sara De Bosschere, and young dancers such as Robson Ledesma and Silas Martens.
The collaboration with BL!NDMAN, a collective for contemporary music, is a first and is represented here by musician Pieter Pellens on soprano sax.
GOT TO BE REAL is a collaboration between Kunst/Werk × BL!NDMAN × de Roovers
with the support of the Flemish Community & KMSKA LAAT.
