REICH / HOSOKAWA
BL!NDMAN [strings] plays Triple Quartet by Steve Reich that they have just recorded for the new triple CD with the entire BL!NDMAN ensemble: ICONS – the American Minimalists.
In this piece, Reich proves that he does not need an orchestra to impress with rich textures: the BL!NDMAN [strings] quartet, for instance, plays along with tape-recorded quartets. By jettisoning traditional conventions and developments, there is no longer any point of reference. Open your mind to it and before you know it, you will fall into a delicious stupor.
Toshio Hosokawa himself stated that his string quartets arise not only from the fertile soil of Asian spiritualism but equally from the scores of Western modern and avant-garde composers. Furthermore, his compositional aesthetic is influenced by his relationship with nature : “I have always wished to create work that could become part of the sounds in nature, the sound of the cosmos.”
