Poortenbos II
In 1989 Kortrijk was at the forefront of Poortenbos, a journey through factory spaces that led one by one to the intimate sounds of four virtuoso saxophones. Eric Sleichim’s first major composition for BL!NDMAN unravelled an unsuspected world of sound with solos, duos, trios and quartets.
Now – 30 years later – BL!NDMAN [sax] creates Poortenbos II / Extrospection with Bob. Throughout the vaults and staircases of MC Track, the individual saxophones of BL!NDMAN enter into dialogue with themselves, thanks to electronics, and together create a quasi symphonic landscape. In the meanders of the building they discover Bob, an accordion moved by magic. With his quick-breathing bellows, percussive buttons and rattling keyboard, he unfolds like an oracle through question and answer a hellish suite of hypnotic movements. A labyrinth of sounds traverses.
With WATER & FIRE / Handel revisited, BL!NDMAN [sax] tackles G.F. Handel’s Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks together with a large DECAP organ! Between these two baroque icons is the infamous opening movement of Jean-Féry Rebel’s Les Eléments, a musical mug’s bargain that was far ahead of its time.
