GOLDBERG
[strings]
Bach’s ‘Goldberg Variations’ are a series of 30 variations for keyboard. The composition, originally published in 1741 as the fourth of Bach’s “Clavier Übung”, is considered as one of the most important examples of musical variation-form. The piece is named after Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, who was probably the first to perform it. Some 300 years later, violinist Dm. Sitkovetsky arranged the variations for string trio.
