helmut oehring

Helmut Oehring was born in 1961 in Berlin.

He is autodidact as guitarist and composer.

Following consultations with Andre Asriel, Helmut Zapf, Georg Katzer and Friedrich Goldmann he was a master student of Georg Katzer between 1990 and 1992 at the Berlin Academy of Arts.

Oehring, who was 1994/95 guest of the Villa Massimo in Rome, obtained numerous prices including the Italian Orpheus Chamber Opera Prize, the Hindemith Prize for his creation and in 1998 the Schneider Schott Music Prize. In 2005, he was elected member of the music section of the Academy of Arts.

Helmut Oehring┬’s ┬œuvre comprises up to now more than 150 works: solo works, chamber music, string quartets, wind quintets, orchestral works, operas, electronics, song cycles, theatre music, film music, radio plays, music videos and an audio-book.

His 18th work for music theatre is UNSICHTBAR LAND after Shakespeare┬’s ┬“The Tempest┬” with parts of Purcell┬’s music, commissioned by Theater Basel. Staging: Claus Guth.
